Forensic Identification SystemThe following was a new Internet Business Opportunity listing from 12/26/07. It sells a Forensic Identification System. It\’s Asking Price is $5,000. It has no revenue. Do you think it is worth the price? At first glance the answer would seem to be an emphatic “no”, but is that the correct assessment?Let\’s make a quick summary to determine if it would be worth exploring farther. The answer may surprise you! The following is the snapshot approach I use to determine whether to pursue a listing or to pass it by.

The listing description is as follows:

Richmond, Virginia (Henrico County) (relocatable)Internet – Consumer Services (B2C) | Retail – Miscellaneous Retail

Asking Price $5,000 Year Established 2004Gross N/A Cash Flow N/ASite originally designed to sell forensic identification systems. Site can be viewed at www.lifesaversid.com (Note: the writer of the listing appears to have misspelled the domain, which is lifesaverid.com) where system is described in detail. Owner lost interest in business before any promotion was done.

The first step is to identify if the domain name “lifesaversid.com” has been a good “netizen”. In other words I am checking to see if the site is indexed in Google. It is a four year old domain name (Creation Date: 11-dec-2003) and should have at least the home page indexed. If it is not, I would assume it had violated Google policy. For example, that it had stuffed its’ meta keywords with words intended to attract the search engine. In this case the news is good. The website is indexed in Google and the meta keywords are as follows:“LifeSaver ID, lifesaver, forensic, identification, system, fingerprint, college, teen, personal protection,FTA DNA collection card,DNA,Whatman,Whatman FTA,DNA collection, child, personal id,forensic id,fingerprint ink strip, fingerprint strip”Forensic Identification System Google Site Search Results

Although, note the “description” captured by Google compared to the current description used on the website,

“The LifeSaver ID Forensic Identification System is designed to be used on both adults and children and contains everything you need to collect and save DNA samples, fingerprints, and important personal information.”

For the initial step to identify how “visible” this website is on the Internet I use two tools. The first is URLTrends; while the second is Quantcast. I\’m looking at key metrics in this result. Neither yields much positive additional information; nor negative information.Final check is a search of Google, Yahoo, and MSN to determine how many other websites include Forensic Identification Systemin SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages). Google shows only 1,900 results; Yahoo shows merely 41 results, and MSN shows 59. This result is quite encouraging; assuming that users actually search on the keyword text string Forensic Identification System.

This summary result was interesting as when I checked if users actually search for Forensic Identification System using Search Engines I found success. Meaning there actually is something here to explore regarding this Internet Business Opportunity.
