Article Four in the series Some Parasites Are Good For Their Host. Article One addressed our parasitic, but symbiotic, relationship with Search Engines; and how they could not survive without our “user generated content”. Article Two viewed our symbiotic parasitism (not sure how that word passed the spellchecker) with content submission sites. Article Three in the series provided insight into using forums, content comments, and directories as a good parasite.

If you are a webmaster, like me, you are a parasite!   However, we are all mostly good parasites because we are beneficial to our host.

Our host for this article is all about being “social”.  If we are social parasites we can inform online socialites to visit our website and spend money. This whole online socialite thing began in earnest with MySpace in 2006.  Think of the Internet in “dog years”.  Making MySpace in middle age crisis at 35 years old.  My gosh!  That means, in Internet dog years, I am 168 years old!!!  If you forgot your division tables that would be 168 divided by 7 = 24 years online/Internet. Our host for this article is forums, comments, and directory sites. Without us, forum sites would die! Most sites could do without comments, but if written for the robot our comments on another site can generate a little bit of link juice.  Linking sites?  How many times have you submitted your site to a business directory, or category directory, or what do you know about DMOZ?

Finding directories for your category is not hard.  Any search will give you dozens of places. So adding links to directories needs no further explanation. Continue reading »

Our host for this article are content submission sites.  Without us, content distribution sites would die!  We provide the “user generated content” that they need to make money (sell advertising).

In ancient times, way back in 1996 ;)   search engines drove 95% of traffic to our web sites.  Yahoo was king, Google was a twinkle in the eyes of the founders.  Alexa was queen.  In all, if you were not in the search engines you were invisible on the Internet.  Has that changed?  You betcha’! If you are a webmaster, like me, you are a parasite!  However, we are all mostly good parasites because we are beneficial to our host.

Our host for this article is the search engine.  Without us, search engines would die!  We provide the “user generated content” that search engines need to make money (sell advertising).

This is a multi-part article focused on our many parasitic relationships.  For example, what if nobody “tweeted”?  When we tweet, we give twitter “user generated content”!  The objective of this article series is a new basics course for webmasters to hone their skills and be a better parasite!  Um, rank at the top of search engines. ;)

Buyer Of An Online Business? – Although this article series is advice for the webmaster use these webmaster tools and insights as a guideline for optimizing the Internet business that you acquire.  Frankly, most first time owners of websites forget, or never knew, the basics of pulling visitor traffic to their website; and exploiting their opportunity to make more money online.

Are you already thinking, “I have followed this guy so far, but I swear, if I could find my way back I would go!  Then skip to the end of this article.

sale of a businessIt is every webmaster’s desire to top the search engine rankings for hundreds of web pages on their site.  Many try. Few succeed.  Why is that?  Mostly because they read some about how, then get frustrated when the “how” did not work.  In this article series I guarantee you will rank some of your web pages; by taking advantage of my over 24 years of online/Internet expertise.

Google represents about 65% of the search market.  So, much of the information will focus on Goggling Google metrics.  Although, a few of these tips will impact your search ranking in Yahoo and Bing; even for the most competitive of “longtails”.  Longtails are simply multiple word keyword phrases.  For example this site targets the longtail “Internet Business Opportunity“.  Secondarily it targets “Make Money Online“, and tertiary longtails like “Sell My Business” and “Buy A Business“.

The longtail “Internet Business Opportunity” is highly competitive.  For every one search instance there are more than 5,000 web pages.  This is a simple ratio of “supply” (web pages) and “demand” (average monthly searches).  However, if you own the domain name InternetBusinessOpportunity.com you will most likely, with little effort, rise to the top of Google search rankings.  Why? Since the summer of 2009 the Google algorithm gave substantially more weight when the domain name is the exact search term.  If for example, you had a “billiard table” site, you can expect that “billiardtable.com” is taken.  Not to worry!
